About the Trip

In one week, I will be traveling to Kosovo with 16 fellow Miami University students to take classes and write for a news publication located in the capital, Pristina. For two months we will study journalism and international studies that will focus on political and ethnic conflicts in this area of eastern Europe. After classes in the morning, as a journalism major I will head to my internship at an online news publication called KosovAlive.com. This ex-underground wartime publication now is a thriving news source independent from the government. I will contribute to this publication for two months as I write about a wide variety of topics in both English and Albanian. I will post what I write on this blog, so follow me and keep an eye out! We will also contribute to the Albanian to English work that the publication needs done.

But of course, a trip overseas can’t be all work. The 8 weeks will consist of 4 days of work and 3 of play. Other than a trip to Croatia with the whole group and a trip to Istanbul with my girlfriend Tori, those weekends are up in the air. I am nervous, but extremely excited to leave. This will be an experience to remember and I cannot wait to begin.

Istanbul, yayayayay!!! With your girlfriend, yayayay! what a spot! You will be happy for the break after Pristina – which has a lotta soul but not a lot of eye candy…. at least it did not in 2008. beautiful people, though.

The great thing about the Balkans is – it’s all near! Catch my local advice: don’t say NO to daytrips and weekend excursions, there’s a lot to be seen in nearby countries!

I was just reading through this blog again, and realized I never responded to you about your Ohrid comment. If you read through my last few blog posts and look through my photography, you will see I went to Ohrid. Not only that, but it was by far my favorite location in the Balkans. And you were right: the sunset was STUNNING. Check out the sunset silhouette picture I took. Just wanted to let you know!
